The Fall of Superman

I'm sitting here,
     completely dumbfounded,
trying to figure out
     when,
          how
and where exactly you
     fell from the Superman
universe I placed you in.
I’m so disappointed.
     It’s disheartening having
your illusions of perfection
     destroyed.
When all the smoke clears
     and the fog of love
has worn off, you’re left
     there nursing
a Heather Headley song;
     I wished I wasn't in love
with you so you couldn’t
hurt me. It just ain’t fair
the way you treat me…
     Standing here angry at myself
for ever having believed that
     Superman really existed at all.
