It’s the 80s and 90s For Me

When Michael Thrilled us with Billy Jean, we all wanted our MTV.

We danced in the Purple Rain with Prince.

Nancy told us to say no to drugs,

while her husband told Gorbachev, to tear down that wall.

Inflation

Iran Contra

Taxation

We were the children of the 80s.

We wanted to Rule the World with Tears for Fears,

as Madonna sang Papa Don’t Preach.

We were The Breakfast Club,

ditching school to see the latest Brat Pack film.

We were the beginning of Hip Hop, Pretty Boys Rock -n-Roll, and House music.

We were the generation of shoulder pads, big hair, break dancing, and Karl Kani.

We stayed In Control with Janet, we would Fight the Power with Public Enemy,

Ushered in the new era of Black is back as we did the Right Thing with Spike Lee.

We mourned for Ricky with Dough Boy in Boyz N the Hood and we reveled in our School Daze.

Yes sir, we were gliding into the 90s with Bill Clinton and a surplus in our pockets.

Monica got on her knees, and told the whole world, and the 3 strikes rule was

in effect.

It was a black thing, with Martin and Gina.

We were Living Single in our Different World, while hanging out

with Moesha and our Girl Friends.

Black was Black.

Soul was Soul.

And we all wanted to be Nina Mosely with Darius Lovehall as our man!

We could stand the Rain with New Edition,

make it our Prerogative with Bobby Brown,

as we got our Grove Back with Stella.

Yeah, it’s the 80s and 90s for me!
